I've finally posted a personal project, called 'Please Don't Get Murdered at School Today', that I've been wanting to do for quite some time. I was inspired by a post on an online publishing site called McSweeney's Internet Tendency, which is usually a home for some pretty interesting, and usually comical, works by indie authors. When I read this piece by Kimberly Harrington, however, I was nearly moved to tears.
Told from the perspective of a parent sending their children to school, it quickly and powerfully points out that school may no longer be the safest place for children to be any more. I urge you to give it a listen, though I must warn you in advance that it is not only a fairly political piece, but it deals with school shootings (though not in any graphic detail). If you are sensitive to this kind of material, I'd ask that you brace yourself before listening.
